Krugerrand gold coins have some interesting features. Though these coins are minted in South Africa, they do not have a denomination on them. This is because Krugerrands are strictly an investment coin. The coin has a picture of Paul Kruger on one side and a springbok on the other side. Paul Kruger happens to be South Africa's first President.

Contrary to popular belief, the 1/4 oz Krugerrand gold coin is not 100% gold. It is made of 91.667% pure gold, the rest is Copper. In actuality this makes the coin 22 karat gold. This is commonly done by mints around the world in order to give a hardness to the coins. Pure gold bullion is very soft and easily bent and marred.

The 1/4 oz Krugerrand gold coin is one of the cheapest available in the investment gold market. The coin is about 22 millimeters in diameter. It is about 1.84 millimeters in thickness.
